"I say we open the gate -- it being closed limits our option a lot more than it does its." Jeddy says.

"Horcrust, how about it?"

OOC:  Am I remembering correctly that Jeddy can't simply reach through and open the gate, but Horcrust could easily do it with his Mage Hand?

" I don't see why we shouldn't open  he gate, It would certainly make things happen faster"

Phil

"Fine."  Owen agrees, when no better options come to mind.  Better the spider takes the obvious attack vector then something unexpected.

Faraway waits until the others are in position before flipping the lever to open the gate. Then, he flattens his back against the wall, waiting until the spider is halfway by before striking.

As he glances around him, S'Vith notices a large chunk of rock which appears to have fallen from the fortress's wall.  He grabs it and mutters a curse under his breath, vowing to swear off cheese completely if his throw strikes true.  He aims for the head of the nearest corby and unleashes the rock, hoping simply to knock the beast unconscious or helpless.

...on top of the wall...

S'Vith's hurled rock smashes into the head of the nearest corby, and the creature screeches piteously and spins around towards the dwarf.  As it does, a spray of blood curls away.

...in the gatehouse...

The lever pulled, the inner gate slides up with a clang.  The spider shifts in that direction.

No, you did not, in fact, find a boulder to hit it with.  More to come soon. ;)

Corby 1 - 21 (-5hp)
Corby 2 - 13
S'Vith - 5

The two nearest corbies approach S'Vith and rake at him with their claws.  The one that was smashed with the rock manages to dodge the Monk's defenses and rake him painfully in the ribs. (-5hp)  The third corby uses the distraction to climb down the outer wall and...

...as the rest of the team readies for the approach of the spider, a corby appears in the gate you came in, blocking your exit.  The spider stops about 10ft shy of the inner gate.

(anyone who had a ranged attack ready that can reach the spider and can see it through the door can make one.  others can either keep your attacks ready in case the spider comes through the door next round, or deal with the corby, or something else of course)

S'Vith gasps at the pain but lets the wound in his side fuel his anger to the point of calm.  As a feeling of peace washes over him, he leverages a punch each at the creatures.
