Chapter One, Part Two: The Road to Brinewall

Lotofsnow

Of course, my friend!

Faraway sounds slightly startled, as if noticing Owen's wounds for the first time.

The druid draws the wand from his belt. He mutters a few words, causing the wand to glow subtly. Then, with a touch, the glow discharges into Owen, granting the paladin some respite from his wounds.

Healing2 1d8+1 : 7 + 1, total 8

Without even waiting for S'Vith to ask, Faraway performs the same ritual, and touches the wand to the monk.

Healing2 1d8+1 : 8 + 1, total 9

The healing is barely done when three more corbies begin climbing down from the northern end of the courtyard, where the catapult was.  More troubling is the sound to the east - the two corbies from the top of the gatehouse have apparently enlisted some additional help, in the form of a couple of ogrekin.  One has a large, lumpy head, and the other's forehead is so sloped as to be flat, but both are looking at you and yelling in the language of giants.

(5 corbies and 2 ogrekin with mean looking spears.  Now's the decision point - fight, flee, or something else.  Let me know if you need a refresher about the surroundings.  It's been a while.)

"Jeddy, Horcrust, retreat to behind the gatehouse doors.  Faraway, S'Vith, form up with me!"

Owen takes a position to the far side of the gate, ready to attack any who approach.

Ready a power attack at any enemy in melee range.  I am hoping for positioning something like:

That way we can funnel them into a choke-point, whereupon the melee can do their thing while the casters shoot from relative safety.  And if shit hits the fan, its the start of an ordered retreat.

Lotofsnow

Faraway nods at Owen, then moves to take his position as commanded, signaling to the great bird, Neith, to guard his rear.

SpamHead

Horcrust complies with the paladin's superior tactics (along with his desire to preserve his hit point total).

Porteiro

Jeddy grunts his assent and makes haste to line up with the others.

TheTick

The three corbies from the northern part of the courtyard advance towards you while you make for the gatehouse, though one stops long enough to hammer on the door to the keep proper.  The two corbies from the east, satisfied they've gotten the ogrekin moving, run to the wall and begin climbing, disappearing from view as you enter the gatehouse.  The ogrekin hesitate before following you - they are warily eyeing the spider and ettercap carcasses, as if they are going to jump up and bite them any second.

Cause Fear vs. geen Ogrekin

TheTick

The first ogrekin seems to huddle in fear, but advances forward after the other one shoves it with the blunt end of it's spear.  (Will save made, shaken for one round) The shaken one approaches Owen warily, then lashes out suddenly with the spear, wounding the paladin. (-8hp)  The other stops just shy of rounding the corner on Faraway and tries to strike the druid, but it's an awkward jab thanks to the doorway and it misses.

Would Owen perhaps get his readied power attack action?

As the lumbering humanoid strikes him with his spear, Owen makes a retaliatory strike with his greatsword across the creature's chest.  The paladin quickly follows up with a second strike, but this one is countered by the ogrekin's spear.

While the two combatants square off, Owen uses his divine energy to ease the pain of his fresh wound.
