Walthus looks down and sighs.  "You should've listened to the short one."  When he looks up, his face is melting away, twisting and flattening, the skin turning a mottled red-brown color.

Roll initiative.  Everyone is about 10 ft from 'Walthus' except Faraway, who I'm assuming is standing next to him to examine his wounds.  Horcrust and Jeddy can act in the surprise round, the rest of you will go in round 1.  And for the record, Detect Evil does find an evil aura somewhere nearby in the first round of concentration, and Detect Magic did find a faint whiff of a magical aura.

S'Vith groans hungrily, raises his fists should they be necessary, and roars, "All I wanted was a loaf of bread and a chunk of cheese!"

Oops.  That should be +4, not +8, for a total of 24.

If I get the readied action then I'll first cast elemental ray, then Jeddy, then the goblin, then me again and then normal combat starts. (unless the goblin can beat 24 init or I missed something)

Oh and something else, I want to interrogate him after we beat him so please do not lower him below -10

S'Vith   21
Owen   20
Volorog   8
Horcrust   4

You can't really 'ready' an action before initiative is rolled, but that's why I have you and Jeddy acting in a surprise round - you two were the only ones 'ready' to fight.  If Horcrust is still using his Elemental Ray, roll it as a ranged touch attack.

Sure hope you guys didn't use all of your best rolls for initiative.

Jed brings his crossbow up into his shoulder, but does not fire yet.

Hold action (shoot creature with crossbow) until the creature does anything more clearly threatening.[color]

OOC: I guess I should have waited for a hostile action too but he is already acting so I guess it is too late to stop him now

As Jeddy levels his crossbow at the creature, it spits, "I, Volorog, have claimed this house!  You won't take it from me!"  With grotesque hands it tries to attack Faraway, but the surprised Druid dodges it reflexively.  Jeddy triggers his crossbow but the bolt thuds harmlessly into the floor at the faceless monster's feet.  (9, miss)  The creature turns towards him, but is then hit by a blast of fire from Horcrust. (15 vs touch AC 9, -5hp)  Volorog howls in pain.

Okay, everybody is up, basically.  Declare your action, only Horcrust goes after Volorog.  You can roll your own attack and damage if you like, to save time.

Lotofsnow

After twisting to avoid Volorog's initial lunge, Faraway counters with one of his own, jabbing at the creature with a two-handed thrust of his short spear. Then, the druid, shifting the spear to one hand, unlimbers his shield with a skilled twist of his arm while leaping back to allow his allies to engage.

Works for me.  There will be 'indoor-ish' places it can go for sure, just figured a hobbit-shack wouldn't be one. :)

Owen suspected that the halfling was up to something.  Some deal with the goblins, perhaps.  He never expected it to be some sort of monster in disguise.  Still, he's glad that it's duplicity was not difficult to root out.
