Chapter One, Part One: Fires over Brinestump

Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception!

SpamHead

"If nothing remains to be explored, then we can look for anything the spiders don't need. If they found treasure it won't serve them any purpose." (assuming nothing remains to be found. He looks anyway.)

Lotofsnow

"Owen, would you say anyone has a right to enter a home without permission and take thinks they perceive the owner does not need?"

SpamHead

"I could understand such a comparison if spiders were intelligent, however spiders would probably notice the fact that we have been here at all more then anything other then the web that we move."

Horcrust does not mention that he perceives himself as more important then animals and hunts them often when he is hungry.

Lotofsnow

"Again, it does not address the spider's instinctive drive to defend its home. Do you have the ability to sneak in and out of a spider web without its knowing? I seriously doubt that, my friend."

Porteiro

Quote"Owen, would you say anyone has a right to enter a home without permission and take thinks they perceive the owner does not need?"
"Son," Jeddy says, "you just lost the argument right there.  Spiders aren't folk, no matter how big they are.  They just aren't."

SpamHead

"Jeddy, can you whip up another batch of that mist?"

Lotofsnow

"I hope your powers allow you to cleanse poison then, Jeddy. Mine certainly do not."

Porteiro

"The mist, I can do.  Cleansing poison, I cannot."

"Faraway's probably right.   No matter how you feel about squashing giant vermin, this is probably not a fight we want to take on right now"

SpamHead

Horcrust sighs. "I still think we can do it but I certainly cannot alone, especially if magical sleep will not work. If nobody want's to do this I will go back with all of you."

Phil

Owen is a bit conflicted.  He doesn't lend particular weight to the life of something as monstrous as a giant spider, but neither does he see any reason to provoke a fight with it.  He also sees the druid as his most valuable and respected ally, and not one to offend lightly.   Thankfully, practicality is on Faraway's side.

"Treasure?  In a spider cave?  I do not think it likely.  We can see no chests or goblets or trinkets.  You are as likely to find treasure in there as you are any random hole in this forsaken swamp."  He shakes his head.  "Do not mistake foolishness for bravery.  If it is gold that you seek, look for it elsewhere."

SpamHead

"Spiders mat not collect treasure, but the intelligent creatures it likely hunts do. If we find treasure in there then it has been killing humans or other intelligent races. If not, then Faraway is right and there is no reason to worry about the spiders."

Lotofsnow

"Horcrust, how many intelligent creatures have we come across in this swamp? Even the swamp monster had little for loot, and it specifically hunts travelers. In that spider cave, we'd likely find dead birds, rats and maybe a few goblins, if we're lucky. You'll quench your thirst for gold as soon as we sell some of the items from this chest. Don't let your greed consume you. "

The druid begins to turn away, but he stops and faces both Horcrust and Jeddy.

"I know I sound harsh at times. You both deserve more respect than I have given you. I'm sorry."

SpamHead

"I do not think much is likely to be in there, but if there is I am very curious."

By this time he has cast Detect Magic in there, if he sees anything (probably not) then he will insist on going in, alone or not.

SteveRogers

Tired of the bickering, S'Vith roars and runs into the cave with a battlecry.
