Chapter One, Part One: Fires over Brinestump

Quote"I'd like you to investigate these locations.  This chest came from somewhere, and I'd like to see what else is there.  If anything.  I know it's asking a lot."

"Think nothing of it.  You have but to ask."  The paladin smiles and nods his head.

Ameiko smiles warmly.  "Thank you, Owen."  She holds the Paladin's gaze for a moment, then wipes a bit more of the grime off the chest.

Koya speaks up again.  "Hold still, everybody."  She holds aloft her holy symbol of Desna and focuses, and soon healing energy washes over the adventurers. (she will channel energy until everyone is healed)   A few other tavern patrons look around as the feel a bit better, and she waves her hand at them.  "That one's on the house."

After a filling (yes, even for S'Vith), hearty meal, it's decided to see if the head and ears can be turned in.  A short walk to the Sandpoint Garrison finds it still open, with a bored Deputy Vatanen manning the desk.  "Can I help you?"

Owen takes the head out of his sack and holds it up for the deputy.

"Greetings, deputy.  We are here to inform the sheriff that the goblin menace Gutwad and his Licktoad tribe have been neutralized."

SteveRogers

"The lad is too modest." S'Vith mimes snapping a goblin's neck.

Deputy Vatanen looks unimpressed until the bag with Gutwad's head lands on the table with a *thump*.  He looks in it, gets up, and goes to the door behind him.  "Sheriff Hemlock?  You should see this."
The large Shaonti man strides out to see what's happening.  Without a hint of squeamishness he picks up the goblin head and inspects it.  "Yes, this certainly matches Gutwad's description.  You've done a great service to Sandpoint, even without these other goblin ears.  Without their leader, the Licktoads won't last long in the marsh."  He turns and gestures to Vatanen, who had been scribbling away at a form. "Take this to the clerk in the Mayor's office, and they'll give you your payment.  Thank you again."

That's 1200gp.  If anyone thought to take the goblins' armor and shields, or if you all want to sell any of Gutwad's equipment, let me know and we can do that before the morning.

"Jeddy, did you plan to keep any of Gutwad's items? If not, Masterwork items can fetch a decent price. We might even be able to afford a wand of cure light wounds if one is available in town."

SpamHead

"We don't want to be hasty on what to spend our money on, we might want something else."

Lotofsnow

"You might want something else now, but a wand of cure light wounds in the party is awfully valuable if you take a goblin arrow in the knee."

Porteiro

"If you don't mind, I'd like to keep this spear.  But other than that, no, let's sell it."

"If we keep working together like this, such a wand would indeed by very useful."

Phil

"Very well.  I trust you will take care of the procurement of the wand, Faraway.  As for myself...  While this greatsword is the best the temple blacksmith could produce, I know that old Das Korvut can do better.  The balance on this one is a bit off.  Too much weight in the blade, not enough in the hilt.  I will pay a visit to the smithy to see what he has in stock."

I really need to read further ahead to know which PCs survive the RotR campaign...  If Das Korvut isn't one of them, let me know and I'll retcon.  Or else perhaps roleplay Owen finding out about the smith's passing.

Will spend pretty much all my gold to buy a masterwork greatsword.  If I get time I can calculate exactly how much that leaves, or if I need to borrow a couple GP from Faraway.

Lotofsnow

"Yes, Owen. I will inquire about a wand at the Cathedral. I'll also look into purchasing a few potions of healing.

If you think of it, while you are at the smithy, could you check if Das has any clubs on hand? I remember he would sometimes leave them for local children to practice their swordfighting. There is a new spell I would like to try, and one of Das's clubs would be perfect for it. If you wouldn't mind grabbing one for me, I'd appreciate it."

Phil

"Of course, friend.Hopefully I can find one that his mastiffs haven't chewed up.

Everyone assembles at the Rusty Dragon just after the sun starts to lighten the sky, and after a short breakfast, you head out onto the road to the Brinestump marsh.  The trip takes a bit longer without a passing farm wagon to hop in, but soon enough you are picking your way through the muck.  Now that he knows more or less where he's going, Faraway easily leads you back to the goblin camp.  The trail from the pond leads back into the marsh, and with a nod, the druid leads the way.

Spoiler: ShowHide
Okay, here's the thing - Faraway, with the spell he's prepping to help with his survival checks, has that in the bag.  As in, can't fail the check (it's a fairly obvious trail).  So I'm going to take you guys ahead from here to the first ship marker on the map so you can investigate that.

After an hour's walk, you come to the first area marked with a ship on the goblin map.  You pass into a small clearing next to some slow-moving water.  There, on it's side, is indeed a ship - or what's left of one.  It appears to have burned, with mostly the ribs intact along with a few planks here and there.

Everyone roll a Perception check.
