Chapter One, Part One: Fires over Brinestump

The arrows are magic (+1 animal bane), but the rest of his gear is mundane (though the masterwork items are of excellent quality).  That and the potions, of course.  You detect no other magic items in this room, and you would need to go in the other rooms to detect anything there.
Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception!

"Can anyone divine if there be any traps or some evil beyond these doors?  If not, I'd love to see if one is a pantry, but I'd prefer not to forego safety to sate my appetite."

SteveRogers

S'Vith approaches the nearest door and places one ear against it, trying to listen for some evil on the other side.

No traps, as far as you can tell.  The other 'doorway' btw is just covered with an animal skin.

The first thing you notice inside the first side room is, it smells.  Secondly, you see one item that stands out - though it's covered with muck and filth from the marsh, you can see a red lacquered chest.  Wiping off one panel shows an etching depicting a beach scene with frogs and cranes.  (a Knowledge(Geography) check can tell you more)  Notable also, there are three sets of deep gouges on the floor.  One leads to the chest in the room, and two sets lead to or from a spot adjacent to it.

Much to S'Vith's relief, this room also has the larder - there's a week's worth of food, mostly cured meat and salted fish.  What kind of meat, it's best not to think about.

The other room, with the skin over the door, appears to be Gutwad's bed chamber.  It's really just a pile of rags and ratty blankets.  Nothing of value was kept there.

SteveRogers

With a giant grin, S'Vith runs over and snags one of the salted fish.  He inspects it before eating it.

Lotofsnow

Faraway stops short of entering the room with the chest.

Wait a moment while I try to determine if the chest is magical.

OOC: Detect magic on chest

TheTick

S'Vith can detect no problems with the fish, other than whatever dubious spices the goblins used on it.

Nothing about the chest is magical.

Quote"What say you Owen?  Jeddy?  Horcrust?  Shall we search these adjacent chambers?"

Owen doesn't initially hear the question, being lost in thought.  I felt the hand of Sarenrae through me, I'm sure of it.  Yet I could not strike down the chief, nor even harm it.  Perhaps there is a lesson here.  Maybe even one such as this could have been redeemed, or treated with in some way?  Did my goddess wish me to pursue a different course than the one I took?  He makes note to pray on it on the next dawn.

He then realizes that S'Vith asked a question. "Oh?  Yes."  He answers, but a bit late as the dwarf has already gone ahead.

Lotofsnow

Satisfied the chest is not magical, Faraway cracks it open.

TheTick

The lid opens with a creak, and nothing leaps out or explodes.  Inside are several items, including six multi-pointed throwing weapons of unknown manufacture, a large pile of gold and silver pieces (329sp and 112gp for those counting at home), a long hairpin with a rare red pearl on one end, and a gold and ivory fan.  The fan is the most interesting item, as when it is opened fully, there appears to be a map on the back.  (You can try Knowledge(Local) to try and ID it)

SteveRogers

Satisfied the fish isn't poisoned, S'Vith takes a big bite out of it.  Between mouthfuls, he mumbles, "I suppose those precious things likely belong to the locals?  Originally at least."

TheTick

You know, I don't think any of you have K(Local) so here's the map - hopefully my drawing skills are good enough to give it away:

SpamHead

(Is that how you drew it or the goblins?)

Yes, it is obviously a map of the marsh. What are those marks, no knowledge bonuses but...
