Chapter One, Part One: Fires over Brinestump

Porteiro

Jeddy reflects on the nights that he spent gazing into the heavens, dwelling on the vastness of the heavens, and feeling insignificant in the face of their majesty.  He takes that feeling of dread and terror, concentrates it, and projects it on the goblin.

5-foot step to the West,
Cause Fear @ G11

TheTick

(with the modified actions from our earlier discussion)

The goblin to Jeddy's east begins to feel fear seep into it's mind, until finally it lets out a blood-curdling scream and runs away from the Hobbit as fast as it can.  It falls into and manages to splash through the smelly pond before disappearing into the dense undergrowth.

S'Vith easily resists the goblin's attempt to escape.

Horcrust, S'Vith, you are up.

Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception!

S'Vith snaps the goblin in his arms.

S'Vith's opponent is squealing and shouting what could only be goblin profanity right up until the monk's knee cracks it's ribs, silencing it.  The other goblins hear this, and decide to run and try to get in Gutwad's shack. However, they skid to a stop when they clear the mist and see a giant bird attacking the cowering goblin at the door.  Soon they follow the fleeing goblin by splashing through the pond to take their chances in the swamp.  All except the creature Neith has pinned down, as it tries to run the roc's talons do not miss this time.

Success guys, +325xp for everyone.  Also that leaves 6 goblin bodies, so 60gp worth of ears, plus some mundane gear (all small sized:  leather armor, light wooden shields) to sell if anyone is so inclined.

As the mist clears, the first thing Faraway sees is Neith, standing next to a disemboweled goblin at the door to the largest shack.  A cursory try of the door shows that it is indeed locked.

If anyone wished to look around this shack or try something else, now's the time.

Lotofsnow

Faraway approaches the great bird. He caresses the side of her face and whispers something to her. Then, the bird lifts off, but doesn't go far. Neith lands near her original kill and begins to feed noisily.

Horcrust begins searching the area casting detect magic just in case he finds anything. First though he cuts off the goblins ears (glad his elemental spells did not burn any of them) and carefully puts them in his pack.

"I'm going to search the area for anything valuable. I do not know how long I will take."

OOC: I'll just assume he takes 10 most places and takes 20 anywhere that looks especially wealthy.

TheTick

There's only one shack that appears to have anything of value - the rest are filled with rags and leaves and whatever the goblins scavaged from the swamp or the Sandpoint junkyard.  The slightly nicer shack has 23 gold pieces scattered about the floor, and 3 wooden tubes, open at one end, with a fuse at the bottom.  Fireworks, most likely, but a bit larger than what the goblins tried to shoot at you.

He takes everything of value and puts it in a pile, only slightly disappointed when nothing is magic (I assume no magic items are  present)

"We might as well check out Gutwad's place now"

(also he makes an attempt to find the firework that fell into the pond)

Lotofsnow

Faraway nods in agreement with Horcrust. The druid trots over to where Neith is finishing her meal and retrieves his spear before rejoining the companions outside of the shack.

SteveRogers

"I suppose it would be expecting too much to hope for some cured meat and some cheese." S'Vith yawns and stretches his arms and legs.

Phil

"Huh."  Is all that Owen says as the goblins flee.  The paladin does not feel any need to pursue them further.  Things were looking scary here, and he had started to suspect that his group may need to be the ones to retreat.  Owen is glad for the weak hearts of goblins.  Speaking of...

"The goblins seemed to think that Gutwad was inside this shack.  Is he craven or was there some other reason for not answering the call of his tribe-mates?"

"I mean to find out.  When you all are ready, I will attempt to break the door down."

If anyone brought a lock picking set, go ahead and interject.  Otherwise I may need help determining if it'd be easier to try and chop it down with my sword or use just a basic STR check.  Tick, feel free to do the roll for me on either method.

SpamHead

Horcrust tosses a acid orb at the door, not really expecting anything to happen.

"I could try to set it on fire but that may do more harm than good"

Lotofsnow

Faraway turns away from the door as the acid splashes against it. He shoots Horcrust a look before taking position behind Owen, ready to throw his spear if the situation calls for it.

SteveRogers

S'Vith braces himself for combat, ignoring the ferocious growling of his stomach for the time being.  "Ready yourselves, lads."

TheTick

Horcrust's acid weakens the door, and Owen's mighty swing smashes it to bits.  Cowering behind it are 3 more goblins, equipped similarly to the ones that were just fought outside, and one more that is massively fat (for a goblin anyway).  The armored goblin chief seems to be commanding the others to attack, and the three goblins appear to fear their boss more than you.

Everyone roll your initiative, the OOC rolls are fine.  Just pretend this post was here all along.
