As far as I can tell, you can have four of you designated as 'Heroes' in addition to your standard roles.  It's a free +4 to Attack, Security and Resolve checks (which stacks with what the other jobs give).

As for trading, Sandru, Horcrust and Owen all seem to qualify to trade.  You can 'spend' one cargo unit of trade good each and make a Resolve check.  Normally whatever the result of that is, is what you get in return.  That seems fairly low, so I'm doubling it.  I know the chance to lose money is more realistic, but I'd like for you to at least be able to break even at low levels. :)

Phil

Sure, and you gotta think that we'll just drop if if the profit is not worth our time.  The expected wealth per level goes up crazy fast.  At some point that's going to be chump change to the PCs.

TheTick

Yeah, at some point it may simply be easier to assume the Caravan makes money on trade goods without your intervention, and just use the rest of the 'van rules (if anyone still wants to that is).

If you want to sell any trade goods here, let me know (or you can roll the resolve checks, should be 1d20+7 per crate, then doubled as I mentioned).  Otherwise, just let me know if you are resupplying and we can start out the next day.  Wolf's Ear is only a day further down the way.

I'd definitely be up for trading, and restocking our food.  I'm kind of posting on the run now, so can't do much IC or update the caravan sheet.

But here's a resolve check:

Rolled 1d20+7 : 2 + 7, total 9

SpamHead

Resolve Check: 1d20+7 : 13+7 = 20

40 gp?

TheTick

So, add 58gp, subtract 2 crates of trade goods, add 20gp for passenger guy (described shortly IC).  Unless you have a pressing reason to stop and shop at a town just a day away from this one, I will just roll things along to Roderic's cove.  If you want to sell another crate of trade goods, go ahead, just roll another resolve check on Sandru's behalf. :)

I need a security check from the Caravan, please.  And do you want one person to handle this stuff, or what?  That's the oddity about the 'van rules, since there's only one caravan, it's difficult to involve everyone.  On the flip side, I can run caravan encounters like a normal combat, but that would take longer.

I am assuming Jeddy and Horcrust are both defaulting to guards with their spellcaster status.  That'd bring the security up to 6, I believe.  Though I don't have time to review the rules to see if there's a limit to the number of guards or anything like that.

So that'd be:

Security 1d20+6 : 12 + 6, total 18

I have no problem with whomever happens to be paying attention at the time rolling the necessary checks.  Or for you to roll them yourself as DM, really.

I thought Horcrust was providing bonus to the Security as a scout? He goes around in the woods mostly because he likes nature and has lived in the woods as long as he can remember.

Phil

The problem with that is that Shalelu, Faraway, and his Roc max out the 3 scout positions (I believe).

With that in mind, I think playing Guard is the more useful default job for him.  Though you can RP being grumpy about not being allowed to scout :).

If its a big deal Shalelu can probably be a guard instead, but being a scout is kind of her entire reason for existing...

TheTick

You can even RP that you cycle through the roles - it doesn't matter who is doing it at the time, as long as the numbers are always the same.

I thought Faraway said he would be bored with a scout job?

Lotofsnow

No. Faraway offered his expertise at scouting.

When we're done with this adventuring stuff, I might hire Faraway out as a caravan scout. Though, generally that probably means taking the same route over and over again, and he'd get bored with that very fast, so maybe not.
