This guy has a caravan for sale:

Phil

Good thing we brought our own bare-knuckle boxer...

Though I'm not sure who I'd put my money on.  I think Mickey is probably level 3 or so.

SteveRogers

I can say with the utmost confidence that Mickey would kick S'Vith's butt.

Porteiro

That pretty boy?  Not a chance.

I haven't reviewed the caravan rules lately.  What roles might Jeddy be able to take?

SpamHead

Methinks you would count as a Spellcaster and therefore qualify for pretty much everything.

TheTick

Spellcasters still need to fill a role within the Caravan - their bonus is that they don't have to meet the prerequisites for the listed rolls (entertainer, guide, guard, healer, scout) as they can use their spells.  So, Horcrust may want to take the guard role initially, and Jeddy the guide, but if there's a scrap, Jeddy can jump to the healer role the next day.  Or Faraway can be the Healer, since he can cover all of those roles as well.  Things like that.
Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception!

The new thread is created - mark that one to notify you, if you please.  At the beginning of each caravan day, i'll keep a tally of miles traveled.  It's 512 miles to Brinewall.  How far you get may depend on what modifications and purchases you make for the 'van, and the events that may or may not happen each day.

We have 18 cargo spots currently.  I say we buy another supply wagon.  That way we can load up on trade goods and food with 28 available slots.

And if Ameiko doesn't want to cook, we could hire one as well.  It's a net -1 consumption at only 10gp/month and we'd have plenty of room for one to ride on the new supply wagon.

If no one objects, I'll put that into the caravan spreadsheet.

Although, will the extra supply wagon require another driver? Unless Ameiko wants to do that, I guess. No freeloaders!

Phil

Yep.  So I'm advocating for 3 additional NPCs hired on.  A driver, a cook, and a wainwright.  Plus the two drivers that Sandru already has.

Wonder if Jeddy wants to move around and fill what needs filling?

For instance, he could Guard at first, but he can also Heal if necessary.

Phil

So I guess if we bought all food (unlikely), we'd have 18*10 provisions.  And with a consumption of 16 (that includes one scout foraging), we'd go through that in 17.5 days of travelling.

I'm not sure if that's good or bad, but doesn't look great to me :-\.  Without the extra wagon, we'd have 11.25 days worth of food max.

I guess this is a path with frequent stops.  With that in mind, what kind of buffer should we shoot for?  A week of food, perhaps?  That'd give 12 cargo units of food, and the rest for repair and trade goods.

[Sandru would probably know, so could give us advice.]

I just read the Donner Party wiki page a couple of days ago, so my first instinct is to buy cold weather gear and all the food we can carry!  But I suppose this isn't the barren American west...

Well, do Faraway and Shalelu require seats? If so, then we should get another wagon anyway.

Jeddy (only picking on him since he doesn't have a job listed) could be tasked to drive unless he's needed elsewhere.
