Jeddy talked about how his uncle (a halfling) had a run-in with giant spiders while he was adventuring with a group of dwarves.

Yeah, when I went back to look for the reference, it was obvious (and amusing).

I think the problem with catching it the first time is that I still don't quite have my head around Jeddy being a halfling yet.  I mean I know he is, but tend to not think of him as one until it is relevant.

Also, you're up in both of my games on sake ;).

TheTick

Since there was nothing magical in the cavern based on Detect Magic, is Horcrust still pushing to go in?  Seemed like you guys were leaning towards "don't go" for a minute there.
Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception!

Phil

Yeah I think the only chance of us going in was a S'Vith crazy charge.  Since that's not likely, I think it safe to assume we're leaving.

SteveRogers

If we could take it pretty easily, I, as a player, am considering acting on S'Vith's impulse to blindly charge.  As I said, S'Vith wouldn't want to put the whole party in jeopardy we couldn't survive.

Phil

That's the thing though, we might know as players that a single spider is easy to fight, but our characters don't know that.  Except maybe Faraway, and he's taken the position that it would put the party in jeopardy.

As a DM, I absolutely would make it two spiders (or more) in there just to punish that sort of meta-gaming :).

But if you do want to do a blind charge, just do it quickly!  I don't expect the adventure path designers anticipated a several-day lag on deciding whether to confront the spider or not. ;)

SteveRogers

We can just pass on it.  As a player, I don't want to force the rest of you into a conflict you would have preferred to avoid.

Lotofsnow

Like I said, I'm fine with it.

You know Faraway well enough to have confidence that he'd aid his friends if attacked. He'd just be super pissed about it for awhile.

SteveRogers

It's in S'Vith's character to do this.  Particularly if he thinks it will peeve off Faraway.  Here's hoping we don't die!

SpamHead

If all else fails Neith might be able to hear a shout.

Lotofsnow

Sorry to say, a man-sized bird is not going to squeeze into a cave where it can't fly.

SpamHead

We don't know if we can even win this fight. But if we are in trouble then we probably can run (if nobody is unconscious.)

Phil

The dude with the lowest perception mod (Owen) apparently is the best at spotting spiders.

[Though as sneaky as they are, a 19 may not be enough.]

TheTick

And yet, still not good enough, thanks to the spider's racial bonus and webs. :)
