Yep.

Your enemy can also roll on his turn to break away.

Phil

Yep, at +5 bonus.  On his turn he'd likely attempt to break the grapple, however, though he needs to use an action to do so, further reducing his ability to do anything useful.

+5 in addition to the modifier I already have for Grapple (making it +10 total)?  Or just +5 again as with the initial grapple?

Phil

+10 total.  Basically its easier to keep someone in a headlock than it is to put them there :).

QuoteIf your target does not break the grapple, you get a +5 circumstance bonus on grapple checks made against the same target in subsequent rounds.

Lotofsnow

Grapple can be a lot of fun. Works both ways, too. Send a horde of goblins at the fighter, and while most will likely fail their grapple, if just one grabs on, things become a bit easier for the goblins.

SteveRogers

So if I'm early in iniative and successfully grapple this guy, then it'll be way easier for you guys to pound him?   8)

Lotofsnow

A grappled creature is restrained by a creature, trap, or effect. Grappled creatures cannot move and take a –4 penalty to Dexterity. A grappled creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and combat maneuver checks, except those made to grapple or escape a grapple. In addition, grappled creatures can take no action that requires two hands to perform. A grappled character who attempts to cast a spell or use a spell-like ability must make a concentration check (DC 10 + grappler's CMB + spell level), or lose the spell. Grappled creatures cannot make attacks of opportunity.

A grappled creature cannot use Stealth to hide from the creature grappling it, even if a special ability, such as hide in plain sight, would normally allow it to do so. If a grappled creature becomes invisible, through a spell or other ability, it gains a +2 circumstance bonus on its CMD to avoid being grappled, but receives no other benefit.

A little.

Phil

The dex penalty would lower its AC a tad, best case it'd be a 10% better chance of being hit by a regular attack.

But yeah, mostly what you'd be doing is making it have a hard time hurting us.  If it doesn't break the grapple, any attack would need to be one handed, and have an attack penalty.  And any spell would have a chance of failing completely.  It also can't escape, if that's its plan.

If it does spend a standard action breaking the grapple, you've basically made it waste its turn, since now it can't attack or cast most spells.

It's a reasonably well balanced ability, IMO.  At least from what I've seen of it.

It also allows S'Vith to be relatively non-violent.  Within the confines of his career path of course.   ;)

I will resolve all of this later tonight - elemental ray from Horcrust included.
Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception!

If you want to go all out with that, you could even choose to do unarmed, subdual damage instead of lethal damage with your attacks.

All this monk talk makes me want to play my Drunken Master I built.  Maybe I could mix him in as a villain somewhere...

Up next is surprise round, right?

That's been my understanding.

Sorry that I haven't checked in before now today.  I had a 4-hour meeting in the middle of the day.  The time before that was spent preparing for it, and the time after was spent recovering.  Then I was late taking my daughter to violin practice....
