When we're done with this adventuring stuff, I might hire Faraway out as a caravan scout. Though, generally that probably means taking the same route over and over again, and he'd get bored with that very fast, so maybe not.

???

As a career scouting the same route over and over. This is one trip to places he's never been before.

For the record, I didn't include any Heroes bonuses or any from the scouts.  My bad.

TheTick

You made the check either way, so it's all good.

So it would be something like:

So that'd be:

This dice roll has been tampered with!
Security 1d20+6 : 12 + 13, total 25

Woah.

Lotofsnow

How many bandits are there?

TheTick

Caravan combat is represents the bandits as a group - so it's basically 1 v 1 caravan against a nebulous group of 'bandits'.  It's one of the things many people modify or change, but I thought I'd present it as written first before mucking with it.  Not much interactivity.

Phil

I'm assuming the bandits are on foot, else we'd have no chance to outrun mounted ones.  A single horse pulling a wagon is going to be crawling compared to a horse with a single rider...

(Fluff wise, not necessarily mechanics wise.)

TheTick

As soon as I find the actual rule for running away that I swear I just saw the other day, we'll do that. :)

TheTick

Okay, what I'm going to do is run this like a train robbery - the bandits (six of them) will be trying to run you down on horseback.  I'll give you two rounds to attack the bandits, every hit will unhorse or otherwise defeat one of them.  If any are still up after two rounds, they'll manage to stop the 'van, and a normal combat will occur (with more bandits, but NPC involvement).

TheTick

Note that you can pick a spell or ranged/melee attack, since this is really still a caravan combat abstraction (albeit a bit more like real combat) it will work either way.

Huh, okay, I wasn't sure any would be in range of Owen's greatsword.  Was kind of waiting for an IC post of them getting up in our business.

So should I just roll two attacks, assuming two bandits get in range of the main wagon?

TheTick

Yep, roll two attacks - if you guys total 6 hits against 'em, you manage to beat them back enough to get clear.  If not, one of the bandits will manage to stop you, and a real fight begins.

TheTick

That's exactly what I was imagining - the amount of damage doesn't matter, just that you did something that might disrupt your attackers.  Like Indiana Jones kicking a bad guy in the face when he tries to jump on the car he's in, knocking them off.

Whoa.  I get busy for a couple of days, and you guys really boogie.  I'm not sure how much S'Vith can do from a distance to bandits on horses.  If there is anything available for me to throw, I can try to throw something at one of them, but I'm not entirely sure how to roll that.
