Porteiro

Hey, what are you guys using to generate these character sheets?

Sounds like a viable plan to me, Phil. Just hope The Tick doesn't cut the cord on you.

At a cost of one silver piece, I think he could do that all day and I wouldn't mind :).  Really having the weapon cord cut would be a waste of an opponent's attack that'd be better off doing something else.  I'd consider it a good trade.

So, I'm thinking of re-doing my character concept.  I really like this character, but a lot of my recent characters have been Cha based.

What characters do we have so far?

I've built a Strength-based druid.
Phil has a paladin.
SteveRogers seemed to be leaning towards monk.
SpamHead had voiced an interest in playing a sorcerer.

No problem with the weapon cord, and that's a clever usage of it.  I'd actually just read a loooong thread at the OotS forums about Lay on Hands and which shields it can work with.  Bucklers, yes...Light Shields were trickier as the 3.5 description specifically says you can hold something in that hand (say, handing your sword off to that hand while you Lay it on), Heavy Shields, nope.  But a weapon cord would let me not worry about it so much, so I like that.  Only tricky part is switching weapons in combat.

Best suggestion I saw on that subject:  Paladin fist bump = lay on hands.

Porter, I've used PCGen to make most of my PF characters, and I've had good luck with the Heroforge spreadsheets also (though they can be unwieldy at first).  Links are in the character creation thread for the other game (or they come up in Google).  I've had a long weekend, and haven't been able to check much, but I'm liking what I see.  :D
Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception!

TheTick, do you have any reservations against me using a roc as my animal companion?

Yeah, I'm pretty loyal to my weapons so I'm not sure how often that'd come up.  Maybe if there was a flying enemy or one that I could only attack from range.

But...  I do think for this campaign and group, a traditional 'smiter' paladin with a greatsword is probably a better fit, and avoids the question entirely.  I think I want the 'sword and board' build to work in theory more than I am actually desperate to play it.

My smiter is a serious heavy hitter, and with Toughness and getting Lay on Hands four times a day started at next level, he's also as tough as nails.  I haven't found any archetypes yet that speak to me for it, so probably going with this or something very much like it.

TheTick

(To Lotofsnow) Nope.  Using the stats listed at the SRD right (with the limit that it never gets bigger than large if it's an animal companion)?

Yep, definitely by the rules, using the SRD stats.

TheTick

Not a problem.  I could see that being a difficult thing to balance for in the low-level encounters, but we'll go with it.

This seems to have frozen up a bit.

SteveRoger, need any advice on the monk?  a different concept?
SpamHead, are you still interested in playing?
Porter, any new concepts or still thinking Oracle?

I wonder if it'd be terrible if we just house-rule the Oracle to be a WIS based caster instead of CHA.  I don't think that'd break anything, and personally think its more thematic.

TheTick

Let's do this - anyone who has a finished character, I just created a Character Sheets thread over in the Jade Regent forum.  Post it up there so I know who's done (though feel free to tinker until we start).

Anyone still building, there's a Character Build help thread as well, which we can keep using as time goes by for anyone who wants feat advice at level up or whatnot.

SteveRogers

I hit a wall free time wise, but I should have some time in the next couple of days to finish at least a rough draft for the monk.

Phil

I think I'm going to start ignoring this thread since the other forum is where the doings are going on.

Just too many PBP related threads to check all the time :).
