If my character dies, he's just out of the game then?  How does that work?

Does having so much damage affect my attacks?  Because I was planning to return fire at the Dwarf with my own crossbow.  Or would doing a heal roll help me in any way?

Depends on HOW dead.  When you get put to negative hit points, you are considered 'dying' and lose one point of HP further each round unless you are healed or you stabilize.  But if you reach -10, kaput.  But since we'll be kind of restarting things anyway, this could be your 'Blaze of Glory!' moment.

Ah, he's been grounded from internet due to grades.  Do we need more input than a roll? 

So I find that being still pretty new to D&D, we sometimes make mistakes and stuff.  I guess I"m not understanding some basics about moving and the map.  Maybe we should see if we can setup a google hangout at some point.  Best time for me is wed-saturday evenings, when my husband is theoretically asleep.
