Considering Rat 8 to be the dead one.  Pretty much everyone should be able to reach/attack the final rat this round, if anyone has something different they want to do instead, let me know.  Otherwise I'll just do a mass roll for everyone and the rat and see write it up later. :)

Oh, I thought my character sheet specified a d6 for the light mace.

d6 is for damage. You have to hit it first. You always roll d20 to hit. In general it is d20+Base Attack Bonus+Strength Modifier for a melee weapon.

Okay, am I supposed to roll for the damage myself, or does the DM do that after he determines if it was a hit?

You can roll them together - no big deal.  If you don't hit, you just don't get to use the damage roll.

I was thinking, how about some of the creatures drop valuables like swords or gold, and if it's a rare enough monster, quest Items. For example, the world depends on Taggart, so how about maybe some creatures drop ender pearls, and if we get enough we can complete the reason we were journeying.  And maybe Imfei's quest is to get a very valueable pearl from a castle.  These are just suggestions and examples, so is this a good idea or what?

There WILL be stuff of value, though the rats you just fought wouldn't be likely to have any of it.

How do knowledge checks work to figure out what this thing is?

You can delay on your turn if you wish. Just say when you're going to go instead.
