Darn.  Not having access to a manual at work is harshing my groove.

TheTick

For how Bardic Music works, you roll a check (1d20 + your Perform skill rank) to beat the Will save of the critter.  So you would've RP'd something like "I play a little ditty to fascinate that snake!" and then put the die roll in, and I check to see if it works.

SteveRogers

I figured it was something along those lines.  Could I bother you for a refresher on how to roll an attack with my rapier?

TheTick

You just roll to hit (for that it's 1d20+2) and damage just in case you hit (1d4+1).

Taggart and Imfei, yer up!

Yeah, I'd been waiting to post till after they did.

Sputnik314

First to attack snake and already good chance of critical hit!

I think there should be an hour every day where everyone is online at once so we can play adask without delay. How about 7:00-8:00?

SteveRogers

I wish I could make that work, but I'm not sure I could with my work and school schedule.

TheTick

Yeah, as awesome as that would be, that's kind of why I play online and not at a table - my schedule doesn't often match up with anyone else's.  Imfei's up, Bigsby's in the on deck circle.

Normally Bigsby would not yet be able to both draw a weapon and attack in the same round (needs +1 BAB for that) but I honestly figured he'd be carrying a weapon in the dangerous swamp.  Moot, anyway, since he missed. :P

Couple of questions before I take my action.

1st: How wounded relatively is the snake? Just some cuts or is it really hurting now?
2nd: What kind of action would it take to break free?
3rd: What sort of penalties, if any, would I suffer from attacking while being held?

SteveRogers

I was unaware you couldn't draw a weapon and attack in the same turn.   :o  That seems kinda silly, but I won't debate the mechanics of it.

Lotofsnow

Well, drawing your weapon (or anything really) is a move action. So, in general, you cannot move, draw your weapon and then attack, since that's three actions in a turn (move, move, standard).

However, once you have a +1 base attack bonus, you can draw your weapon as part of a move action. Alternatively, there is the Quick Draw feat that allows you to draw a weapon as a free action.

TheTick

1.  The snake is sliced up pretty good, hurting but really pissed off now.
2.  You can make a grapple check (Str) or an escape artist check to try and break free.  Assuming you had a light weapon drawn (handaxe?) you can attack with that, or unarmed if not (-4 penalty to the roll).
3.  -4, as stated above.

Martial characters or anyone who has gained enough levels to have +1 for their base attack bonus can draw their weapon as part of their move, consider it the training or experience in how to fight.  Your full BAB classes were trained to fight, the rest have to learn it so they don't cut off a finger trying to draw their weapon on the move. :)
