I'll have to try to tidy some things up on the character sheet after I get off work and have you guys take a look at a second draft.

I'm to the point now where I'm just fleshing out the character's backstory in my head.   ;D

Edit:

There were some weapons it just wouldn't let me pick at all on PC Gen.  Like the rapier.  Don't know why.

My guess is because a small character can't use a medium sized rapier and, for some reason, it was only showing you medium sized weapons. A small character can, however, use, say, a medium sized dagger in two hands I think.

SteveRogers

I'll have to look and see if there's a way to filter weapon size, so I can only pick from small weapons.  I'm sure there is.

Lotofsnow

You're further along than I am. I can't get PCGen to load my character at all. Might have to build him from scratch.

SteveRogers

I was having that issue yesterday, so I had to start over too.  I'm hoping that won't be the case again when I try to work on it.

It's Java based, with all the problems that exist with that.  I'll test the weapons thing when I have a minute, I've never built a small character with it.

TheTick

It's dumb that you have to do this, but for 'Small' weapons in PCGen, you right click on the weapon, choose Create Custom Weapon, and then choose Small on the dropdown (defaults to Medium).  This is also where you go for magic weapons or weapons made from other materials in the future.

SteveRogers

Hmmm, odd.  Alright, I'll fix that stuff when I get home from work.  :)  Does it work the same way for armor?

Another random question:

How does the rolling for iniative thing function in relation to whichever are the relevant stats on my character sheet?

It is equal to your Dexterity modifier.

At the beginning of combat, the PCs and the NPCs each roll initiative (d20+Initiative) to determine the order of turns from highest to lowest. So, your guy has a +2 right now. Improved Initiative would bump that to +6.

SteveRogers

So, my Initiative right now would be whatever I roll plus 2?  Or with Increased Initiative it would be whatever I roll out of 20 plus 6?

Yep.

Okay.  So, what do I need to be looking out when I roll for an attack and for damage then?

Edit:

I assume I roll out of 20 and then it looks like I subtract 1 because of my strength?

That's where the 'Melee' and 'Ranged' lines on your sheet come into play, that shows you what to add to your attack roll for each type of attack.  For damage, you look at the weapon itself (which if you add it via PCGen, has a chart just a bit down the page that shows what to roll, depending on whether you are wielding it in one hand, two-handed, etc).

So, I roll out of 20 and then add 1 to that if I attack with the longsword or quarterstaff?  And then you compare that to an enemies stats to determine if my attack is a hit?
