Yikes, Darrell!

Quote from: "El Seed"I've been curious, rivka. Has the air quality gotten better down there?
In that we have only a handful of smog alert days per year (and I think there was one recent year we had none), absolutely. (Further inland they still do -- Riverside and thereabouts.)

Thanks, I was wondering. The last time I went down there, long ago, I had respiratory problems for the entire trip. Glad to hear that the emissions controls are paying off! That certainly makes L.A. a more attractive destination.

Our cool fog is back! Yay! Mildness ensues. 8)

It was 91 degrees when we got home. We stained bookshelves.

Had been mid-upper 80s, going to be 61 tomorrow.  Crazy hailstorms today, with the sun still out.
Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception!

Fog continues, warming this afternoon. Clear for the next couple of days.

Good temp for staining, quis!

Is that unsettled weather the remnants of the flood storms from Central US?

I hope that the other administrators in the other offices are not sick again today. I'm stretched pretty thin!

A little cooler today than yesterday. But not enough!

I can't figure out how to get a heat index calculation for a temperature lower than 80 degrees. Most of the charts I've found put it at somewhere around 70°, but I can't find anything more specific.

Where do you get your info?

NOAA. I like to go to the source.

I'm very happy that they've started to use the weather station at Napa Airport rather than Concord, which is in the East Bay. The weather station at our airport is only about eight miles away. It's slightly cooler, because it's closer to the Bay, but it's way more accurate.

Yeah, that's where I went too. Apparently, at this temperature, they don't put the heat index up, because a search of my area yielded everything but.

The point weather forcast seems to be in perpetual beta. While they've worked out some bugs for our local weather station, yours might still have something missing. Which seems wierd to me, because the above seems to have all the relevant data right there.

I don't know how they put together that calculation.

Here is a heat index calculator: //http://www.crh.noaa.gov/jkl/?n=heat_index_calculator.

By plugging in your above data, 64°, with a 52° dewpoint, it gives the result

Fair
71°F
(22°C) Humidity: 36 %
Wind Speed: W 3 MPH
Barometer: 30.00 in (1015.10 mb)
Dewpoint: 43°F (6°C)
Heat Index: 77°F (25°C)
Visibility: 10.00 Miles

This 71°F and 43°F Dewpoint give a heat index of 77 F / 25 C, correctly stating our humidity at 36%.

Your dewpoint is much higher than ours right now. That's interesting. I thought that Wind Speed would have some effect on the calculation as well...?

I work less than a mile from Lake Michigan. Would the relative position of the lake have an effect on that?

Dewpoint seems to be a calculation involving the air pressure and the temperature. Beyond that I have little idea. It is the point at which water vapor will condense.

It's a mysterious calculation: Relative Humidity and Dewpoint Temperature from Temperature and Wet-Bulb Temperature.

Way more math than I can devote myself to at present.

Currently 111 degrees and sunny.  Does anyone need some extra warmth?

No.
