Thick clingy wet fog here in the North Bay.  It'll clear to the upper 60's.

Tie up this week, and get the heck out of here!

Woohoo, it wasn't so cold as to numb my fingers this morning!

Continued fair weather all week in the Bay Area.

Warming in the office.  They actually followed my guidelines this weekend.  8)

Very chilly this morning outside, will be fair this week, however. Strong gusting leaf blowers outside my window are kicking up those spiky seed balls from the Maples out front.

Inside someone misunderstood the concept of no one being here at night, hence the heat is at 67 degrees.  It's memo time again....

Stupid maple spiky seed balls.  I hate those things.

Cold and wet here today.  Well, not inside.

Bad ice storm (followed by snow) made going home from soccer last night treacherous.  T and I staying home today.

Slip slidin' away?

Continued clear. Weather dude told us "don't worry about your new plants" this morning in relation to frost, thinking that Napa was around 40 degrees last night.  I looked out the window to see the park covered in frost.

Rain next week.

Cool, but warming today in the office.

Wow. The jet stream shifted suddenly, and we're looking down the barrel of a chance of showers now.

And it's cold. :|

Spiky seed balls?  Are you sure that's a maple?  I'm thinking sycamore.  Maples have seeds with two wings that spin as they fall.  Sycamore leaves are kind of maple-leaf shaped, but they have the spiky seed balls.

Some maples have them as well.  Like, every maple tree in my yard.  Stupid freaking spiky ball seed things.

My Japanese Maple at home has the helicopter seeds. These big monsters here have the spikey ones.

Cool this morning, inside and out.

If the tree's seeds take the form of a spikey seed ball, it is not a maple, even though it may look like a maple. Maples have seeds with helicopter wings (the seed form is called a "samara"), as Tante indicated.

huh.  Looks like they may be Sweet Gum, now that I look them up.  I was told by the previous owner and an arborist that they were Maple, and they certainly look the part from my limited training.  I noticed the seeds were different from the helicopter Maples at my Grandmothers.  But from what I've read, it's odd to see them this far north.  Where is El Seed from?

The colors certainly are as brilliant as advertised on the Sweet Gum.

I spent about 3 hours last night trying to get the driveway squared away.  Shoveled about 14in of snow off the driveway, then went looking for some icemelter/salt to finish the job, and everywhere was out.  Home Depot even.
